The HealthTech Marketing Playbook for 2027: What’s Coming and How to Prepare

Four shifts will shape next year’s plan, and every one of them can be prepared for this quarter. Here are the shifts, the evidence behind each, and the work to do in the fourth quarter of 2026: search becoming answers, buyers researching without reps, proof and compliance deciding trust, and budgets that stay flat, so the plan funds fewer, better things.

Summary of this blog

  • Four shifts shape the plan for next year. Search becomes answers, buyers finish their research before they call, proof and compliance decide trust, and budgets stay flat. Each one can be prepared for in the fourth quarter of 2026.
  • The evidence is in. Ahrefs measured position-one click-through down 58% where an AI Overview appears. Gartner reports 75% of business-to-business (B2B) buyers prefer a rep-free experience. The Federal Trade Commission has said there is no AI exemption from the law. Gartner’s 2025 chief marketing officer (CMO) Spend Survey put marketing budgets at 7.7% of revenue.
  • The work for each shift is specific. A citation baseline and evidence pages with named authors. Then a pricing model page and a fair comparison page, a claims audit and a tracking audit, and a one-page plan with three funded things.
  • Health raises the stakes. The buyer is cautious, the regulator reads the site, and next year’s plan has to carry evidence as well as campaigns.
  • Start in October. The State of HealthTech Marketing 2027 research arrives in December, and a plan that has done the Q4 work is the one that can use it.

HealthTech marketing 2027 will be decided by four shifts that are already visible in the data, and the plan for next year is written this quarter. Search is turning into answers that cite a few pages. Buyers are finishing their research before they call. Regulators have said the ordinary rules apply to AI claims. And budgets have stopped growing. A plan that prepares for all four in the fourth quarter of 2026 starts the year ahead of the companies that notice in March.

Each shift has a number behind it. Ahrefs measured position-one click-through down 58% where an AI Overview appears, across 300,000 keywords from December 2023 to December 2025. Gartner reports 75% of B2B buyers prefer a rep-free experience. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced five enforcement actions against deceptive AI claims in September 2024 and said “there is no AI exemption from the laws on the books”. And Gartner’s 2025 CMO Spend Survey found 59% of marketing leaders lack the budget to execute their strategy. The HealthTech marketing 2027 plan is a response to those four numbers.

This guide sets out the four shifts and the work to do in the fourth quarter of 2026 for each, for the founder, chief executive or marketing lead at a HealthTech company, a health software business or a clinic group. Our pillar on working with a HealthTech marketing agency covers choosing help for the work, and the guides linked in each section go deeper on the shift they belong to.

The HealthTech marketing 2027 playbook has four shifts in it: search becomes answers, buyers finish their research before they call, proof decides trust, and the budget stays flat. Next year’s plan funds fewer, better things.

The Q4 readiness check

Ask four questions of the current plan. Which of our pages are cited in AI answers today? Can a buyer learn our pricing model and our evidence without a call? Would every claim on the site survive a regulator’s reading, including the AI claims? Which three things would we fund if the budget were a third smaller? The HealthTech marketing 2027 plan starts with the questions nobody can answer yet.

Four waves rolling towards a shoreline labelled Q4 2026 for the HealthTech marketing 2027 playbook, the waves labelled search becomes answers, buyers research without reps, proof decides trust and budgets stay flat, with four sandbags on the shore marking the work to do for each
Four waves, one shore. Each HealthTech marketing 2027 shift is visible before it lands, and the work on the shore is done in the fourth quarter of 2026.

1. Search becomes answers

The first shift is the search result. Buyers increasingly get an answer instead of a list of links, from an AI Overview, a chat assistant or an answer engine, and the answer cites a handful of pages. A HealthTech marketing 2027 plan treats being cited as the goal where ranking used to be. The pages that are cited are the ones with a named author, a clear claim, the evidence behind it and the sources, which is the list a health buyer wanted all along.

What the evidence says

Pew Research Center tracked 68,879 searches by 900 US adults in March 2025 and found users clicked a traditional result on 8% of visits with an AI summary, against 15% without one. Ahrefs’ 58% fall in position-one click-through, cited above, measures the same change from the page’s side. Gartner’s January 2026 consumer survey found 82% have noticed AI Overviews and 51% say their research habits have changed.

In February 2024 Gartner predicted that search engine volume would drop 25% by 2026 because of AI chatbots and virtual agents, and advised companies to focus on unique content that is useful to customers. The HealthTech marketing 2027 question is which of the company’s pages an answer engine would cite for the buyer’s ten questions, and most companies have never checked.

Do this in Q4 2026

Three things. Ask the buyer’s ten questions in three AI tools and record which pages are cited; that list is the baseline. Give every evidence page a named author, a one-line claim, the sources and a date, and check it is indexable and eligible for snippets, since Google’s guidance on AI features says no special markup is needed and the same Search Essentials apply. Check robots.txt allows OAI-SearchBot and PerplexityBot, so the answer engines can read the pages at all. Our guide to AI search for HealthTech covers the citation work in full, and the HealthTech marketing 2027 plan builds on it.

2. Buyers research without reps

The second shift is older than the first and accelerating. The buying group at a hospital or a health system reads, compares and shortlists before anyone contacts a vendor, and the AI answer has become one more place to do it. A HealthTech marketing 2027 plan accepts that the website, the evidence pages and the pricing model page are the sales conversation for most of the journey, and writes them as if a rep were in the room.

What the evidence says

Gartner reports buyers spend 17% of their time meeting potential suppliers, that buying groups run to between 6 and 10 people, and that 75% prefer a rep-free experience. 6sense’s Buyer Experience Report found buyers are about 70% through the process before contacting sellers, and 61% have a favourite vendor before first contact. A hospital’s buying group has done most of its work before the first call, and the HealthTech marketing 2027 plan is written for what it finds.

Do this in Q4 2026

Publish the pricing model page, with the model, the drivers and a worked illustration, even where the number needs a quote. Write a fair comparison page for the two alternatives the buying group considers most. Put the integration listings, the security posture and the implementation plan on pages that need no form. At Healthora, we have seen that companies which make these three pages public tend to find the first call starts further along, with a committee that arrives holding fewer open questions. Our guide to HealthTech growth strategy covers the commercial engine around them, and a HealthTech marketing 2027 plan without these pages is a plan for the 17%.

The buyer’s clock. Gartner’s 17% of time with suppliers is the small wedge; the HealthTech marketing 2027 plan is written for the rest of the dial.

3. Proof and compliance decide trust

The third shift is regulatory, and it is specific to health. Every product now claims AI, and the regulators have said that the ordinary rules apply to the claim. A HealthTech marketing 2027 plan treats proof and compliance as the trust signal that buyers, regulators and answer engines all read: a claim with evidence behind it, a named author, a review date, and nothing on the site the company could not defend in a complaint.

What the evidence says

The Federal Trade Commission’s Operation AI Comply, announced in September 2024 with five enforcement actions, stated that “there is no AI exemption from the laws on the books”. The World Health Organization’s guidance on large multi-modal models, published in January 2024, runs to over 40 recommendations and warns of automation bias. A KFF poll found 32% of adults say they trust AI health information at least somewhat, so trust in an AI claim is low and has to be earned on the page where the HealthTech marketing 2027 buyer reads it.

Do this in Q4 2026

Run a claims audit: every outcome, AI claim and testimonial on the site, with the evidence beside it, and the FTC’s 2024 rule banning fake reviews and testimonials as the standard for the last. Run a tracking audit against the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) guidance on online tracking, which covers when tracking on a health website falls under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Then give every evidence page an author, a date and a review owner. The HealthTech marketing 2027 plan is only as strong as the weakest claim on the site.

The HealthTech marketing 2027 shield. Four quarters a claim must hold; a crack in one is what a regulator, a competitor or an answer engine finds first.

4. Budgets stay flat, so fund fewer, better things

The fourth shift is the money. Marketing budgets have settled at a flat share of revenue, most marketing leaders say the budget cannot execute the strategy, and a growing share of it is going to generative AI. A HealthTech marketing 2027 budget that spreads the same money across more channels than last year will do each one badly. The plan funds fewer things, chosen for the three shifts above, and stops the rest.

What the evidence says

Gartner’s 2025 CMO Spend Survey put marketing budgets at 7.7% of company revenue, found 59% of marketing leaders say they lack the budget to execute their strategy, and recorded 22% of budget going to generative AI-related investment. The Content Marketing Institute’s 2026 B2B research, from 1,015 respondents, found 40% have a documented content strategy. The money is flat and the strategy is often undocumented, which is the condition the HealthTech marketing 2027 plan has to work in.

Do this in Q4 2026

Write the plan on one page before the budget is set, with the three shifts as headings. Fund the citation work, the rep-free pages and the claims audit first, because each one serves all three shifts at once. Cut any channel without a qualified enquiry in the last two quarters; the HealthTech marketing 2027 budget has no room for it. At Healthora, we have seen that a plan which funds three things well tends to produce more qualified enquiries than one which funds eight thinly, and is easier to defend to a board. Our guide to the HealthTech annual marketing plan covers the one-page format, and our services show what each of the three looks like as an engagement.

Same coins, two shelves. Twelve thin stacks or three tall ones. The HealthTech marketing 2027 budget funds fewer, better things.

HealthTech marketing 2027 in practice: the fourth quarter of 2026

The plan for next year is prepared in the fourth quarter of 2026. October runs the Q4 readiness check, the citation baseline across three AI tools, and the claims audit. November publishes the pricing model page, the comparison page and the first evidence pages with authors and dates, and fixes robots.txt and the tracking. December writes the one-page plan with three funded things, sets the budget against it, and reads The State of HealthTech Marketing 2027 research when it publishes that month.

The change shows in January. Ask the buyer’s ten questions again and the company’s pages appear in the AI answer more often than they did in October. The first call of the year starts with a committee that has read the pricing model and the comparison page. Nothing in the claims audit is left in red. And the budget conversation is about three funded things with a number against each, which is a HealthTech marketing 2027 conversation a board can follow.

The recap below lists the four shifts and the work to do for each.

  1. Search becomes answers. Baseline which pages are cited, give every evidence page an author, a claim, sources and a date, and let the answer engines’ crawlers in. The HealthTech marketing 2027 goal is to be cited.
  2. Buyers research without reps. The pricing model page, the fair comparison page, and the integration, security and implementation pages, all readable without a form.
  3. Proof and compliance decide trust. The claims audit, the tracking audit, and an author, a date and a review owner on every evidence page. A HealthTech marketing 2027 plan holds up to a regulator’s reading.
  4. Budgets stay flat, so fund fewer, better things. One page, three funded things chosen for the shifts above, and any channel without a qualified enquiry in two quarters cut. The HealthTech marketing 2027 budget funds three things well.

The four HealthTech marketing 2027 shifts can be prepared for by the in-house team, by a specialist agency, or by the two together. Our services and case studies show what the citation work, the rep-free pages and the claims audit look like in engagements we have run, and the pillar above covers choosing the help.

A specialist in health understands that the four shifts land harder in health than anywhere else, because the buyer is cautious, the regulator reads the site, and the budget has to carry evidence as well as campaigns. Earn the citation, write the rep-free pages, audit the claims, and fund three things well. Then 2027 is the year the HealthTech marketing 2027 plan was ready for.

Frequently asked questions

What will change in HealthTech marketing in 2027?

Four things, each visible in the data now. Search results become answers that cite a few pages. Buyers finish most of their research before they contact a vendor. Proof and compliance decide which claims are trusted, by buyers, regulators and answer engines alike. And budgets stay flat, so the plan has to fund fewer things well. The HealthTech marketing 2027 playbook is the Q4 2026 work for each.

How do I prepare a HealthTech marketing plan for 2027?

In the fourth quarter of 2026, in order. Baseline which pages AI tools cite for the buyer’s questions. Publish the pricing model, comparison and evidence pages a buyer can read without a form. Audit every claim and every tracking pixel on the site. Then write a one-page HealthTech marketing 2027 plan with three funded things and set the budget against it.

Is SEO still worth it for HealthTech companies in 2027?

Yes, with the goal moved from ranking to being cited. Google’s guidance on AI features says no special markup is needed and the same Search Essentials apply, so the pages that rank and the pages that are cited are built the same way: indexable, with a clear claim, a named author and sources. Ahrefs found the overlap between AI citations and Google’s top ten is small, so the citation list has to be checked on its own.

How much should a HealthTech company spend on marketing in 2027?

Gartner’s 2025 CMO Spend Survey put marketing budgets at 7.7% of company revenue, and the figure has been flat. The better question is what the budget funds. A HealthTech marketing 2027 budget that funds the citation work, the rep-free pages and the claims audit well does more than one spread across eight channels. Scope and fees for help with it depend on the plan, and the consultation is free.

Do AI claims on a HealthTech website need evidence?

Yes. The Federal Trade Commission’s Operation AI Comply stated that there is no AI exemption from the laws on the books, and its Health Products Compliance Guidance requires competent and reliable scientific evidence for health claims. The World Health Organization’s guidance on large multi-modal models adds the clinical caution. Every AI claim on the site needs the evidence beside it.

Should HealthTech marketing still use tracking pixels in 2027?

Only after an audit. The HHS guidance on online tracking covers when tracking technologies on a health website fall under HIPAA, and a pixel on a patient-facing page is a privacy question before it is a marketing one. A HealthTech marketing 2027 plan measures by enquiries and demo requests that name their source, which needs no pixel at all.

What does Healthora charge for a 2027 marketing plan?

Fees depend on scope, from a one-off Q4 readiness check to an engagement covering the citation baseline, the rep-free pages, the claims audit and the one-page plan, and are agreed for the engagement rather than billed by the hour. The consultation is free and includes the readiness check.
